As a designer, I’ve been faced with a dilemma recently. I’ve been approached by a few new clients who know exactly the room they want. They don’t need a design. They just need someone who can find the same style of products but for less than the retailer or designer’s room would cost. It’s a dilemma because it’s not truly design. If I’m not building a whole new space from scratch, I can’t really call that a design. That’s really just sourcing.

So I’ve decided to combat this dilemma in two ways; 1. I’m offering my old-school sourcing services again (I’d stopped offering them once I started eDesign because a full room package was most cost-effective for the majority of my clients), and 2. I’m starting a new blog series I’ll dub (as every other blogger before me) “The Look for Less”.

In this series, I’ll explore one pre-designed room and pull budget-conscious look-alike pieces. None of these rooms is an actual room a client has requested. These are spaces I’ve chosen to mimic. My rates are low ($35/hr) and most of these sourcing projects can be completed in about 5 hours.
