Dollar Store Vases: DIY Crafts for Home
DIY HOME DECOR ON A BUDGET
I love sharing my DIY home decor projects with you but the last one (this DIY cardboard cornice) got a little out of hand. It was genuinely SO SIMPLE and really took less than an hour, but HOLY MOLY the tutorial was long and it took hours to explain how each little step came together. So in the spirit of saving time, I’m here today with a quick and easy DIY you can master in 3 steps or less to achieve a look that’s super high-end. Like this:
Dollar Store Vases: DIY Tutorial
SUPPLIES
cheap vases
craft paint
spray paint
high gloss spray laquer
paint brushes
aluminum foil
painter’s tape
decorative paper (or wallpaper samples)
DIY PAINT STROKES VASE
Step One
Turn the Vase upside down and spray the outside in the color of your choice. Allow to dry.
Step Two
Paint sweeping brush strokes in a contrasting color. Allow to dry.
Step Three
Coat vase in high gloss clear lacquer.
DIY DRIPPY PAINT SPATTER VASE
Step One
Dip your artist’s brush in paint and randomly swirl throughout interior of vase. Allow to dry.
Step Two
Tape the rim of the vase with painter’s tape. Cover remainder of vase in aluminum foil and then tape the neck to secure.
Step Three
Spray paint inside of vase in contrasting color.
In six steps and under $20, you’ve now customized two new vases!
DIY HIGH GLOSS VASE with spray paint
Step One
Tape the rim of the vase with painter’s tape. Wrap remainder of vase in aluminum foil and then tape the neck to secure.
Step Two
Spray inside of the vase with paint. Allow to dry. Then, remove foil and tape.
DIY TEXTURED VASE WITH WALLPAPER SAMPLE
please note: this can only be done with a cylinder vase that features straight sides
Step One
Trim paper scrap (I used wallpaper sample) to height of vase.
Step Two
Place paper inside vase and secure with painter’s tap on seam.
DIY JUTE ROPE VASE
I made this one years ago – long before I was ever blogging. So I don’t have a tutorial for it, but here’s an excellent one (and probably where I got the idea)! I actually used a vase I’d gotten from a floral delivery.
DIY PAINTED CHINOISERIE CERAMIC OBJECT
The Eiffel Tower is technically not a vase, but I did find it in the candle section at the Dollar Store. It was plain white and a little tacky, but I loved the idea of painting it to look chinoiserie. It was easy and only took a few minutes. Just simple brush strokes and a high gloss lacquer completed this project.
I hope this DIY tutorial was a lot easier to follow. These are genuinely simple projects that require so little money. I used paint I’d already had on-hand, so my total investment for all of these was under $10! Even TJ Maxx can’t compete with that!
