I am super excited to formally announce that I’ll be a guest participant in this season’s One Room Challenge™ which starts RIGHT NOW.
So far, my Spring planning has been seriously lacking. Between a whirlwind mini-vacation and a head cold that left me zapped for five straight days, I’ve managed to accomplish almost nothing in the Easter / Spring decorating department. As I type this, I’m staring at a pile of naked throw pillow inserts and their covers, stacked haphazardly in the corner where they’ve sat since I took them off the sofa to “lighten up the living room” two weeks ago. But I refuse to let Easter go unnoticed. My family is coming over this Sunday for brunch, so I’m pulling out the good cake plates and filling jars with jelly beans. Faking it until I’m making it, right?
I’ve been focused on Instagram for a little while now and I’ve got to say, it’s a great place to glean inspiration for your home projects. The biggest challenge I have is finding the right inspiration. There are a ton of black and white and beige home interior shots. These are beautiful in photos, but I find it a little impractical for my lifestyle. I like color. Don’t get me wrong, I love a white backdrop, but I want to add some cheer. Even if it’s a faded out pastel, I crave color in my home.
This weekend, I posted the photo above as an entry for a little challenge I’m participating in on Instagram (look up #homediary daily, but know that it’s based in the UK so accounts from the US can’t be chosen as winners or receive the prizes, I’m just doing it for fun). In the post, I offhandedly remarked that I miss living in a home that’s already been completely renovated. Afterward, I got multiple DMs from people, asking me to show photos from our last house.
This month, I had the pleasure of interviewing one of my favorite artists, Alyssa Jill Harris of Willa Heart. I’m genuinely such a big fan. When she agreed to do the interview, I fangirled out and have been walking on Cloud Nine ever since.
Alternative Post Title: Confessions of a Serial Plant Killer. Seriously, I try very hard and yet, I’ve never managed to keep plants alive in my home. I have one aloe plant that was a gift from my friend over ten years ago and it’s still alive. Probably because it took a four-year hiatus from my care while I was living in North Carolina. During that time, it lived with my mother, who can grow plants in a cardboard box (I’m not kidding at all), and it thrived. It even had a baby! I’ve had it back for six months and it’s looking pretty sickly.
Supposedly, Oscar Wilde once said, “Be yourself. Everyone else is already taken.” I’m no literary historian, but I also don’t trust memes as my encyclopedia. So maybe he did. Maybe he didn’t. Either way, it’s pretty good advice. Advice I found out the hard way last week.
See that gorgeous tile backsplash? Don’t you love it? Isn’t it inspiring? Aren’t you a little jealous of the person who gets to wake up every morning and make coffee in front of it? I certainly am. That’s right. Don’t get it twisted. That is not my kitchen. A far cry from it, in fact.
I’m old. Okay, so mid-thirties isn’t exactly geriatric. But I have been feeling a lot more my age now that I’ve started my own business and am running a side hustle (as the kids are calling it these days). Managing two full-time jobs whilst trying to be a good wife and mother is exhausting. It’s hard to find the energey to complete all the tasks that line up for me everyday. I have figured out how to maintain my sanity, in the midst of all the chaos. Here are five products that have helped with that.
