Easiest Cookie Decorating Ideas
It’s that time of year again! The Cookie Swap Party invitations are rolling in. Usually, I panic about what I should bake and bring to these cookie parties but this year, I’ve figured out a very simple process for decorating cookies that make my cookies look super professional! Here’s how I faked baking expertise using an easy family sugar cookie recipe and some melting candy.

First, allow me to be honest for a moment. I am not a baker. I don’t like the mess and I’m terrible at the precision required to get a good outcome when you bake.
Luckily, my wife has a family recipe for sugar cookies that is so easy even I get good results when I bake them!

Aunt Judy’s Easy Sugar Cookies

Servings: 24 cookies
Ingredients:
- 2/3 cup shortening
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1 egg
- 4 tsp milk
- 2 cups flour
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
Instructions:
- cream shortening and sugar together.
- add vanilla and egg to mixture and beat until fluffy.
- add milk and stir.
- add dry ingredients and mix until blended.
- roll dough and cut into desired shapes.
- bake at 350 degrees for approximately 15 minutes.
These cookies are delicious but they’re not incredibly sweet on their own. Since I’m a mess when it comes to decorating with frosting, I decided to try a new way to give them the sugar-y taste this year.
Using this method, I was able to decorate two dozen cookies in under 15 minutes!
