Serena & Lily Inspired Console Table: Build It Cheaper Than You Can Buy It

Serena and Lily inspired blue console table with textural wallpaper - an easy DIY project that costs a fraction of the original #diyhomedecor #knockoffdecor #serenaandlily

I really wanted the Blake Raffia Console table from Serena & Lily but at $1200, it was way out of our budget. So I DIYed my own version for just $150 and was able to customize the dimensions so it fits perfectly in my foyer.

Here’s how I got the look at a fraction of the price…

HOW TO CREATE A TEXTURAL CONSOLE TABLE

STEP ONE: Determine your dimensions and modify your console table as needed.

I really wanted the console table to be taller and less wide than the version I ordered. To achieve custom dimensions, I disassembled my existing console table and used a table saw to rip the top down to the desired width. Then I added a custom shelf and used 1″x1” wood strips to create the legs. This step is not necessary if your existing console table has dimensions that work for your space.

Here’s a view of the table before my modifications:

STEP TWO: Begin applying wallpaper to the legs/sides first.

I started working the legs first because I knew this would be the trickiest step and involve the most cuts + staples. To adhere, I applied a thin later of wallpaper adhesive to the first leg and allowed it to sit for a moment to become tacky. Don’t wait too long to apply wallpaper and don’t apply too much. If you find that you need more, you can always go back in with a brush after the paper is in place.

Use your hand to smooth the paper over the side then go back with your wallpaper smoothing tool to create a crisp line at the crease.

Use a sharp cutting tool to cut around any obstructions. For instance, the shelf of my table required cuts to be made in order to wrap the paper around the entire leg.

Now you can wrap the paper around the entire leg and smooth with your wallpaper smoothing tool. Secure paper at the seam (make sure you place your seam at the back of the table so it won’t be visible), using a staple gun, if necessary. Then use your sharp cutting tool to remove all excess paper.

STEP THREE: Apply wallpaper to horizontal surfaces of table

Apply paste to the table and then wrap a large piece of paper around to the underside of the table. You will make similar cuts at the obstructive objects and use your wallpaper smoothing tool to remove any air bubbles and create crisp lines at the edge.

Once all air bubbles are removed, you can secure the edges of the paper with a few staples on the bottom side.

Allow the table to dry and you’re done!
