ORC™: Week Three – DIY Home Improvement Fails

I know what you’re thinking. I know in your mind, you’re imagining it can’t possibly be as bad as I make it sound. You could be right. On the one hand, I have a home that is sound and a family that is in basically good health and wine. So it’s really not as bad as it could be. On the other hand, everything I touched turned to shit this week and I’m not ready to stop whining about it…

Dollar Store Halloween Decorations: A DIY Tutorial

Halloween is my favorite holiday. I love the fantasy of it all. When it comes to decorating for the occasion, I like to keep it simple and creepy. By adding in some realistic-looking black and red accents, I can play with my existing decor without overwhelming it. By shopping at the Dollar Store, I can keep it cheap. Here are my favorite Halloween DIY Dollar Store crafts…

ORC™ Week Two: Entryway Design Concept

My favorite thing about the One Room Challenge™ is how you get to see room makeovers in real time. In this HGTV-laden world of mega-renovations from start to finish in under an hour, it’s refreshing to be reminded that real life projects take time. I have clients who get so frustrated by the third weekend of their living room renovation that they’re ready to throw in the towel.

Dollar Store Vases: DIY Crafts for Home

I love sharing my DIY home decor projects with you but the last one (this DIY cardboard cornice) got a little out of hand. It was genuinely SO SIMPLE and really took less than an hour, but HOLY MOLY the tutorial was long and it took hours to explain how each little step came together. So in the spirit of saving time, I’m here today with a quick and easy DIY you can master in 3 steps or less to achieve a look that’s super high-end.

ORC™ Week One: Fall 2018 My Suburban Entryway Update

ORC™ Week One: Fall 2018 My Suburban Entryway Update

Well folks, I’m at it again. I just can’t stay away. In fact, you may recall that I took all Summer off from major home improvement projects. My reasoning? I was tired and I knew that if I continued at a lightening pace, I would never be able to participate in this new round of the One Room Challenge™! Well now I’m geared up and ready to rock this …

Subtle Fall Living Room Updates For A Big Impact

It seems like people mostly assume Fall is a style and they don’t want to commit to a complete overhaul of their spaces for just a couple of months’ impact. I totally get it. I wouldn’t do that either! So instead, I’m showing you how I’ve updated my own living room with autumnal touches that stay true to my own style. The impact is the same (some might even say better) but the effort is minimal.

Fall Home Crush: Ballard’s Navy + Black Upscale Look for Less

In this series, I’ll explore one pre-designed room and pull budget-conscious look-alike pieces. None of these rooms is an actual room a client has requested. These are spaces I’ve chosen to mimic. Therefore, I’m offering these for free. If you have a specific room for which you’d like to get sourcing …

DIY Cornice Board from Cardboard

We have two guest rooms now. Previously, we had a guest room and a mess of a storage room (bunker?). This had actually been our daughter’s nursery when we first moved into this house last year. Two months after we moved in, she outgrew her crib and was ready for a “big girl room”, so we transitioned her by decorating our fourth bedroom just for that purpose. Since then, this nursery / 2nd guest room has just been ignored. Over time, it became a dumping ground for miscellaneous bedding and decor. Here’s what it looked like a week ago.

Sherwin Williams 2019 Color of the Year: Cavern Clay – you’ll love it or hate it

Every Fall, each of the major paint brands announces their predictions for the coming year in the form of a Color of the Year announcement. With each new announcement, there are always people who disagree and then avid fans. This year, however, it seems that the house is even more divided than usual. It’s pretty funny to watch the internet explode over a paint color.
